Fish of our rivers

This fish, very common in our ponds, is subject to sport fishing. There are several varieties: scale carp, the "mirror carp" (large scales) and "leather carp" (bare skin). it food gives it flesh a smell of vase that disappears after a few days spent in a pool. It is very popular in eastern Europe.

The pike’s jaws contain around 700 teeth. Females are larger than males which do not exceed 1 m long. Breeding occurs from February to April. Eggs are laid on vegetation in flooded areas. Fishermen enjoy it for its meat and for its fighting spirit.

The rainbow trout comes from the western United States where she was raised intensively since the beginning of the twentieth century. It was introduced in many parts of the world. In Europe, it sometimes supplants the native trout. In Wallonia, its introduction is prohibited in the natural environment.

The reproduction of the catfish occurs from June to August. The female lays about 60 000 large eggs in the vegetation, the male protects them for 10 days. Native to Eastern Europe, it was introduced in all major European rivers. In the Meuse, its size can exceed two meters long.
