Asian greenhouse

It owes its name of "freshwater shark" only to the shape of its dorsal fin. It behavior and it food have nothing comparable. It acclimates easily to the aquarium.

It has a brighter color than the female. In breeding season, it builds a bubble nest. After courtship and spawning, it collects and keeps the eggs in the nest until hatching. The males are so aggressive towards one another that in the Far East, fights are organized.

The zebra loach is endemic to the Krishna River basin in India. Its populations are declining, mainly due to pollution and deforestation. Loaches play a central role in ecosystem balance by naturally regulating populations of freshwater snails.

The fish species Danio margaritatus, commonly known as celestial pearl danio or galaxy rasbora, gets its name from the pattern on its flanks that resembles a starry sky. In English, it is called the "Celestial Pearl danio."

It is a very easy fish to breed in an aquarium. It is used as a "laboratory animal" for studies on genetics and on the embryonic development of vertebrates. Danios varieties have been genetically modified: the « Glofishs » © they are fluorescent in the dark.

It lips turn into suction organs and it corneas gums allow it to take algae off the rocks. It acclimatized well in aquariums. Unfortunately, because of the demand for the aquarium trade, it is threatened by excessive fishing in its original environment.

Dominant males are completely red and have a hump on the back. It's pretty easy to acclimatize and raise in aquarium, but we must separate the adults and eggs after spawning. It is threatened in the wild: those sold come from farms.

Much of it body is transparent. In the rainy season, it takes advantage of the floods to exit the riverbed where it lives to breed. It easily accommodates to life in the aquarium. Its flesh is used for the production of a "fish sauce".

Color varies according to gender: the male is blue and yellow, the female is brown and green. Once formed, the pair lays each day some eggs in the vegetation. The eggs hatch after 12 days. It is easy to breed in captivity.

It can breathe oxygen from the air, it stays at least half an hour under the surface between two breathes. Its tapered pectoral fins have a tactile and sensory role. Because of its large size, it is not recommended for the aquarium of a specimen.

Thanks to its small size, it is an ideal fish for beginner aquarists. It is easy to maintain and reproduce in the aquarium.

The cherry barb is a small freshwater fish endemic to the wet region of the lowlands in Sri Lanka. The males, cherry-colored, have long been intensively captured for the aquarium trade. The export of this fish is now better regulated, but it remains vulnerable to changes in its environment. The main causes: agricultural pollution, hydroelectric projects, and deforestation.

It is very easy to keep in aquariums, it reproduces easily. Eggs are laid in the vegetation and hatch after 30 hours. The alevin are very active and like to eat.
